Which chiller size should you choose?

Most stock tank builders want the 1/2 HP if your plan to insulate your tub. Go 1 HP the tub is not insulated or if the chiller sits somewhere over 85°F, several people plunge daily, or the tub is 150 gallons or more

What you'll still need

A tub. Rubbermaid 100 or 150 gallon stock tank, or any tub with a flat wall up to 1 1/2 inches thick.
An insulated cover (optional, recommended outdoors). We will offer the matching size after you choose your chiller.
A standard GFCI protected 120V outlet. The 1 HP should have its own circuit.
Tools: drill, hole saw, PVC primer and cement

How the build goes

Drill two bulkhead holes in the tank wall and seat the bulkheads.
Mount the filter housing.
Dry-fit the 3/4 inch plumbing (tank, pump, filter, chiller, tank), then prime and cement.
Connect the chiller with the included Active Aqua fittings and connect the ozone line.
Let the cement cure, fill, plug into a GFCI outlet, press Boost.

Do I need plumbing experience?

No. The guides use photos for every step, and first-time builders finish in one to three hours. If you can drill a hole and cement a PVC joint, you can build this.

Which tubs does this kit fit?

Written for the Rubbermaid 100 and 150 gallon stock tanks, but it works on any tub with a flat wall up to 1 1/2 inches thick: inflatable tubs, an Ice Barrel 500, chest freezers. Tubs with 1/2 inch ports need a 1/2 to 3/4 inch reducer. Email us a photo and we will confirm.

What tools do I need?

A drill, a hole saw for the bulkheads, PVC primer and cement, a PVC cutter or hacksaw, and a screwdriver with a few screws for the filter housing.

Which chiller size for a 100 versus 150 gallon stock tank?

Indoors or in a mild climate, the 1/2 HP handles both. If the chiller sits in a space over 85°F or the tub gets several users a day, choose the 1 HP for the 150 gallon tank. The 1/4 HP is for barrels and tubs up to 92 gallons.

How cold does it get, and how fast?

Set anywhere from 39°F to 90°F and the chiller holds it within a couple of degrees. Boost mode runs at maximum output after a fill or water change. A covered, correctly sized tank reaches plunge temperature in hours, not days.

Can the chiller sit outside?

Under cover, yes: garage, basement or covered patio. Not in open rain or direct sun. Keep it upright with 12 inches of clearance on the sides and 18 inches at the back.

Should I choose the Complete Build Kit or the Quick Connect Kit?

This listing is the Complete Build Kit, which uses glued PVC plumbing. It is permanent and the lowest price, and you supply the primer and cement. The Quick Connect Kit skips the glue, installs in about an hour and lets you take the plumbing apart later, which suits renters and anyone who may move or store the plunge. Is this cold plunge kit HSA or FSA eligible?

Yes, through our partnership with Truemed. Select Truemed at checkout to qualify for the Letter of Medical Necessity you need to pay with HSA or FSA funds.

Do I need a special outlet or a dedicated circuit?

All three chillers use a standard 120V plug. The 1/4 HP (4.7A) and 1/2 HP (5.8A) run on a normal 15 amp circuit with the pump. The 1 HP (10.2A) should have its own circuit. Always use a GFCI protected outlet, skip extension cords, and call a licensed electrician if you are unsure.

Do I still need chemicals with the ozone generator?

Most of our customers run ozone plus the cartridge filter and use no chemicals. Ozone oxidizes bacteria, body oils and organics, then breaks down into oxygen. Rinse before you get in and change the cartridge on schedule, and water changes stretch to weeks.

How does it ship?

UPS Ground from Texas in two boxes, one for the kit and one for the chiller. Your build guides are emailed as soon as you order.

Does the Active Aqua chiller come with a pump?

No. Active Aqua chillers need an external pump, and this kit includes one: the American-made Danner Aqua-Mag 1200, with a five-year limited warranty. It moves water from the tub through the filter and chiller and back, so there is nothing else to buy for circulation.

How does the 30-day return process work?
